A retirement village is a tight-knit community and often has an on-site manager, meaning that although there is a lot of independence within a retirement village, there are often rules and regulations that need to be followed.

There may be rules regarding how long a guest can stay in one of the units, whether residents are allowed to have pets and general rules to make sure other residents aren’t disturbed.

Each village is different when it comes to their pet policies. Some villages ban all pets while others allow pets within certain guidelines. A village may ask that only one pet of a certain size be allowed, while other villages will allow any sized pet as long as the other village residents agree to it. Other villages don’t allow residents to replace their pet if the pet dies.

Insurance will also vary from village to village. Most retirement villages cover home insurance but you are responsible for having contents insurance. You may also need to insure your boat/caravan if you have one on the village site. If there is a fire, vandalism or theft the village may not cover it under their insurance.
